OBJECTIVES

In the context of work package 1 the research team will provide an answer to the following nine research questions. Therefore different methods will be used: review of existing data and literature reviews, two consultation rounds of key stakeholders and experts via e-mail, four workshops with experts and key stakeholders, a consultation survey, and two expert symposia.

Question 1

What is the current state of mental health and mental health problems among adolescents in Europe? To provide an answer to this question the research team will review EU-level data and knowledge resulting from EU-supported activities when available. Also, data and evidence available from the WHO, OECD or other relevant international organizations will be used.

Question 2

Which relevant policies and legal frameworks related to the provision of care to adolescents with mental health problems exist in the participating Member States? To provide an answer to the second question Governmental representatives in the 10 Member States will be consulted via e-mail to pass on information about relevant policies and legal frameworks related to the provision of care to adolescents with mental health problems in their country. The gathered information is summarized in a structured way in a single document. In addition, to enlarge the pool of key stakeholders, Governmental representatives will be asked to designate a list of relevant organizations in their country that could participate as key stakeholder.

Question 3

Which initiatives related to the provision of care to adolescents with mental health problems exist in the participating Member States? A consultation round will be organised among experts and key-stakeholders to provide information on : existing initiatives of provision of care for adolescents, their strengths and limitations, the extent to which the needs are met �

Question 4

Which integrated care settings for adolescents with mental health problems exist in the participating Member States? To provide an answer to questions 3 and 4 a consultation round will be organized among experts and key stakeholders in the participating Member States. All participants will be contacted to provide information on the following issues: � Existing initiatives related to the provision of care to adolescents with mental health problems in their country � Existing integrated care settings for adolescents with mental health problems in their country � Strengths and limitations of the existing initiatives and integrated care settings � The extent to which the needs of adolescents are being met

Question 5

What types of integrated care settings for adolescents with mental health problems can be distinguished? Based on the comprehensive overview and based on an additional literature review an answer is formulated to question 5. The different types of integrated care settings will be defined and the availabilityof each type of adapted care setting within the Member States will be described.

During the first expert symposium, the research team will present the results available at this point.

Question 6

What are the advantages and disadvantages of integrated care settings?� An overview of the already available information on the strengths and limitations of integrated care settings, gathered ea. through four workshops will be presented at the first high level expert symposium

Question 7

What is the transferability of integrated care settings between Member States taking into account the different health systems and different social and cultural backgrounds? An update of the information on the transferability of integrated care settings, gathered through four workshops will also be presented at the first high level symposium

Question 8

What are relevant issues that should be taken into account when providing integrated care to adolescents with mental health problems ? Relevant issues to be taken into account, resulting from four workshops will be presented at the first high level symposium

Question 9

What are important guidelines and recommendations for the set up and the continuation of integrated care setting and of an expert network in this field? The available results on guidelines and recommendations gathered through four workshops will be presented.
